Uzbekistan's Deputy PM conveys best wishes to lone athlete at Beijing 2022

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, February 1, 2022: Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Sports, Aziz Abdukhakimov, has wished good luck to Komiljon Tukhtaev, the country's sole entry at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Alpine skier Tukhtaev will take part in the slalom and giant slalom. He also competed at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games.

“Winning a ticket to the Winter Olympic Games, defending the honour of Uzbekistan at this major prestigious four-yearly competition is already a great success. We wish you good luck and victories in the upcoming competitions,” Deputy Prime Minister Abdukhakimov said in an online video conference.

Tukhtaev is presently based in Italy where he is training under Italian coach Mattia Ganessi.

The Sports Minister said Tukhtaev’s presence at the Beijing 2022 showpiece was a boost for winter sports in Uzbekistan.

“By participating in Beijing you will make a worthy contribution to the promotion of winter sports in Uzbekistan. Therefore, we wish you good luck and success. Millions of your countrymen will be watching you,” Abdukhakimov noted.

In turn, Tukhtaev thanked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the National Olympic Committee and the Ski Federation of Uzbekistan for their constant support and acknowledged the special attention given to him and the development of winter sports.
