Saudi Arabia to make Winter Olympics debut at Beijing 2022

Beijing, China, January 31, 2022: There is a new name on the list of Asian National Olympic Committees competing at the Winter Olympics in Beijing – Saudi Arabia.

The Kingdom will make its debut at Beijing with one athlete – alpine skier Fayik Abdi, 24, who will compete in the giant slalom.

The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee confirmed his participation earlier this month after consulting with the Saudi Winter Sports Federation.

Olympics.com has profiled the Saudi skier on the Beijing 2022 website, pointing out that Saudi Arabia has never competed at the Olympic Winter Games but met the basic qualification standards to enter one male alpine skier for Beijing 2022.

This place has been awarded to Fayik Abdi, who acquired FIS (International Ski Federation) points in nine giant slalom competitions after learning to ski at the University of Utah.
