Kyrgyzstan’s sole athlete at Beijing 2022 Maxim Gordeev receives National Flag

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, January 30, 2022: The State Secretary of the Kyrgyz Republic, Suyunbek Kasmambetov, on behalf of President Sadyr Japarov, has congratulated the country’s sole athlete at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Maxim Gordeev, and handed over the National Flag on Friday, January 28.

Alpine skier Gordeev, 26, who qualified for the men’s slalom, will be accompanied by coach and President of the Ski Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic, Igor Borisov, at the February 4-20 Winter Games.

State Secretary Kasmambetov said: “We believe that you will raise the banner of the Kyrgyz state high, and your success will be a great victory for the people of Kyrgyzstan. We are proud of your sporting achievements. President Sadyr Japarov knows what a difficult path you have to go through and sincerely hopes for good luck.”

The National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan also unveiled the official uniform and presented Gordeev with 14 items of equipment which included uniforms for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games. The kit was provided by the NOC’s partner, Chinese company Tectop, who have been supporters since 2018.

In addition to Gordeev and Borisov, the Kyrgyzstan delegation will include Chef de Mission Cholpan Zhumagazieva. The President of the NOC Sadyr Mamytov and Secretary General Kylychbek Sarbaghyshev will also attend as guests of the International Olympic Committee.
