Alpine skier Aruwin breaks new ground for Malaysia at Winter Olympics

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, January 28, 2022: The Olympic Council of Malaysia is marking another milestone in the country's sporting history in the countdown to the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The OCM is recognising the achievements of teenage alpine skier Aruwin Salehhuddin, who will compete in the women’s slalom and giant slalom at Beijing next month.

“Ground-breaking achievements by this enthusiastic, dedicated and young Malaysian lass, Aruwin Salehhuddin,” the OCM said in a Facebook post, before pointing out a series of notable accomplishments:

*She is 17 years old

*She started skiing at the age of 2 and joined her first ski racing club at the age of 5

*She joined the International Ski Racing Academy in 2015 and pursued ski racing fully in 2016

*She is the first Malaysian female athlete to have qualified for the Olympic Winter Games

*She is also the youngest Malaysian athlete to have qualified for the Olympic Winter Games.

 

Aruwin will race in the women’s giant slalom on February 7 and in the slalom two days later and can guarantee on strong support back home.
