Iraq NOC signs sports agreement with Spanish Olympic Committee

Baghdad, Iraq, January 27, 2022: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq and the Spanish Olympic Committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Madrid last week.

The Iraq NOC posted on its Facebook page that the Iraqi side was represented at the signing of the MOU by President Raad Hammoudi, while the Spanish side was represented by the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco Bravo.

The sports agreement calls for closer cooperation between the two countries with special emphasis on youth development.

“We came to Spain because we realise the weight of Spanish sports globally and what Spanish athletes have achieved in high-profile sports. We are very happy to sign this MOU which will open up new horizons and serious cooperation that will benefit Iraq sports,” Hammoudi noted.

He added: “We hope by signing this memorandum it will strengthen cooperation that has brought us together on many occasions and we hope to continue working together over the coming years to achieve success.”

The Secretary General of the Iraq NOC, Haitham Abdul Hamid, also confirmed that the Spanish NOC President had agreed to make an official visit to Baghdad in April 2022, and had expressed his happiness in fulfilling the official invitation extended to him by his Iraqi counterpart during the meeting.
