Hangzhou, China, January 24, 2022: The Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Husain Al Musallam, believes the broadcasting of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 will present a “master showcase” to the world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first World Broadcasters Meeting for Hangzhou 2022 on Monday, January 24, Mr Al Musallam said he was “very happy” to see so many TV rights-holding broadcasters from around Asia joining the Asian Games host broadcaster, China Media Group, and the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC).
The meeting was held in a hybrid format, with sports and broadcasting leaders gathering in Hangzhou and Beijing and the OCA joining online from Kuwait along with rights-holders from around the continent.
“The World Broadcasters’ Meeting is one of the most important events to gather information and knowledge for successful TV and online broadcasting of our Hangzhou Asian Games 2022,” said Mr Al Musallam.
“Asian Games TV broadcasting consists of not only the best technology but also the best production team around the world to present a master showcase of the Asian Games to the world.”
The OCA Director General pointed out that TV broadcasters from many countries and regions were represented in the meeting, including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar, Philippines, Taipei, Uzbekistan, India and Hong Kong.
“I am confident that HAGOC will present detailed presentations and information to all of you for a better preparation of TV broadcasting in your countries and region,” he added.
“I wish you all have a fruitful meeting in the coming two days - and the Olympic Council of Asia will always be here to support you and all for the success of the Hangzhou Asian Games.”
The Vice Mayor of Hangzhou and Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC, Chen Weiqiang, pointed out that there were only 229 days to the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games and that plans were well in hand to stage a “spectacular” sports and cultural event.
The OCA’s 19th Asian Games will be held from September 10-25, 2022 in Hangzhou – capital of Zhejiang province in southeastern China – and five co-host cities.
There will be 40 sports, 61 disciplines and 482 events, with esports and breaking making their medal debut in the Asian Games.
HAGOC made presentations in eight main areas. The Main Media Centre incorporating the Main Press Centre and International Broadcast Centre will be located in the Hangzhou International Expo Centre next to Olympic Park, just 3km from the Media Village. The Media Village is part of the main Asian Games Village and will be open from August 29 to September 26 and have a capacity of 5,000, although hotels will also be available for the media in the five satellite villages around Zhejiang province.
Regarding accreditation, the process opened in December and will close on May 10, with Pre-Valid Cards issued from July 10. The PVC will serve as a visa waiver for multiple entries into China from August 11 to October 10, 2022.
The first World Broadcasters’ Meeting will continue on Tuesday, with host broadcaster CMG briefing the rights-holding broadcasters on various technical aspects and services.
