Kyrgyz Republic NOC confirms Beijing 2022 place for slalom skier Gordeev

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, January 24, 2022: The Kyrgyz Republic National Olympic Committee has announced that alpine skier Maxim Gordeev will represent the country at the Beijing Winter Olympics next month.

The 26-year-old slalom and giant slalom specialist has been skiing since 2010. He is a champion and master of sport in the Kyrgyz Republic and has participated in three world championships, two Winter Universiade games and numerous events under the International Ski Federation (FIS).

“The best result in the international arena is fourth place in the 2018 FIS competition. His head and personal trainer is Igor Borisov,” the NOC said in a press release.

“Over the past four years, Maxim Gordeev has participated in competitions in Iran, Armenia, Sweden, Russia, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and the UAE. The qualifying tournament in the UAE in November 2021 was key - with the results of four starts, our athlete was eligible to perform at the upcoming Olympics in the slalom.”

At the invitation of the International Olympic Committee, the President of the NOC, Sadyr Mamytov, and Secretary General Kylychbek Sarbagishev are also going to the Games.

The Winter Olympics in Beijing will be held from February 4 to 20 and Maxim Gordeev will compete on February 16.
