Colombo, Sri Lanka, January 24, 2022: The Wrestling Federation of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee, Olympic Solidarity and United World Wrestling, has held a four-day technical course for referees and coaches.

A total of 40 participants – 20 referees and 20 coaches – took part in the seminar held at the Ministry of Sports Indoor Stadium in Colombo from January 17 to 21. This is part of a long-term development plan by the Wrestling Federation of Sri Lanka.

Two-time Olympian and national coach of the Greco-Roman squad in the United States, Egyptian Mohamed Abdelfatah, conducted a Level One course for the coaches.

The referees’ course was run by Ashok Kumar, also an Olympian and the only referee from India to officiate at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“We are grateful to the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity programme, United World Wrestling and the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka for the support given to this project,” said Sarath Hewavitharana, President of the Wrestling Federation of Sri Lanka.
