Kazakhstan President hands over national flag for Beijing Winter Olympics

Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, January 23, 2022: Beijing-bound short track speed skater Abzal Azhigaliyev has received the national flag from the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in a ceremony held on Friday, January 21.

 

The Head of State met members of the Olympic and Paralympic teams for the Winter Olympics and handed over the flag of Kazakhstan to Azhigaliyev, flagbearer of the Olympic team, and Alexander Gerlitz, captain of the Paralympic team.

 

“Your perseverance and will to win are an inspiring example. Now you have to justify the hopes of not only relatives and friends but also millions of Kazakhstani fans,” said President Tokayev.

 

In his speech, President Tokayev also focused on the support given to mass and youth sports and said it was a key priority of the State.

 

Meanwhile, on Saturday, January 22, the Kazakhstan National Olympic Committee officially unveiled the team’s uniform for Beijing 2022. The uniforms were made by Kazakh company ZIBROO and created by Russian designer Dmitry Shishkin.

 

“The Olympic Games celebrate friendship and solidarity. Sport has always united and continues to unite nations. Kazakhstan expresses its solidarity with the world athletes’ community participating in Beijing 2022 despite the increasing difficulties of the pandemic,” said Kazakhstan NOC Secretary General Andrey Kryukov.

 

Kazakhstan is set to be represented by 32 athletes in eight sports at Beijing.
