Kazakhstan NOC’s national sports awards attract over 800,000 votes

Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, December 11, 2019: The National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan hosted the National Sports Awards "Altyn Samgay-2019" in the Central Concert Hall "Kazakhstan" in the capital Nur-Sultan. The awards are the initiative of the President of the NOC, Timur Kulibayev, and the special guest was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Askar Mamin. The voting period was from November 15-30 and 820,000 fans voted for their favourites through the website www.olympic.kz. The main awards were: Athlete in Summer Sports: Bekzad Nurdauletov (boxing). Athlete in Winter Sports: Elizabet Tursynbayeva (figure skating). Young Athlete: Abilmansur Batyrgali (karate). Coach in Summer Sports: Aset Serikbayev (freestyle wrestling). Coach in Winter Sports: Elena Kruglykhina (freestyle skiing) National Sports Federation: Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation. Sports Region: The Department of Physical Culture and Sport of Kyzylorda. Breakthrough Athlete of the Year: Alisher Yergali (freestyle wrestling) Team of the Year: Men's national ice hockey team. NOC Heritage of Kazakhstani Sport Award: Amin Yelemesovich Tuyakov (athletics) Paralympic Athlete of the Year: Nurlan Dombai (taekwondo). Paralympic Coach of the Year: Zhandos Kiyanov (judo). Sports Science Award: Dr. Irek Satov. Another highlight of the evening was the drawing of two vouchers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games among fans who had bought tickets to attend the National Sports Awards, sponsored by the Complete Service travel agency. NOTE: Two Kazakhstani athletes received medals from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 following revised results by the IOC: Alla Vazhenina (gold medal, weightlifting 75kg) and Olga Rypakova (silver medal, athletics - triple jump).
