Iran NOC President discusses Hangzhou Asian Games with Chinese Ambassador

Tehran, Iran, January 14, 2022: China’s Ambassador to Tehran, Chang Hua, and his accompanying delegation visited the National Sport Olympic and Paralympic Museum and met with Dr. Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the NOC reported on January 12.

Dr. Salehi Amiri welcomed the Chinese Ambassador and highlighted the strong relations between the two countries and the rich culture and civilization of China and Iran, notably the Silk Road.

The NOC President added that China had proved to be a worthy host of many international sports competitions and that next month’s Beijing Winter Olympics, in which Iran were competing, would be no exception.

“Also, for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, Iran will send a stronger and bigger delegation than for the Asian Games in Jakarta,” he said.

“We are looking forward to the Chinese Embassy and the organisers of the Games to have good support and coordination with us, for example, good conditions and coordination for the flight of the Iranian sports delegation to Shanghai and then Hangzhou.”

China’s Ambassador thanked the officials and the NOC of Iran for supporting the Winter Olympics and said: "I know that Iran holds first place in sport in the region and is one of the Asian sports hubs that won three gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, as well as two silver and two bronze medals.

“Congratulations on this success and I wish success to Iranian athletes in the Beijing Winter Olympics and Asian Games in Hangzhou.”

Peyman Fakhri, Iran’s Chef de Mission for Hangzhou 2022, presented a report on the number of athletes, officials and disciplines to be sent to the Asian Games, which was acknowledged by the Chinese Ambassador.
