India’s Olympic medal-winning boxer awarded police recognition

Guwahati, India, January 13, 2022: India’s medal-winning Olympic boxer Lovlina Borgohain has been appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police by the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

A ceremony was held at the State Secretariat (Janata Bhawan) on Wednesday, January 12 in recognition of her bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the women’s welterweight (64-69kg) division.

“I am elated at being given this opportunity to serve my people in the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police. I am thankful to Hon'ble Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sir, ASSAM Police,” she said.

“But main focus will be to work hard in sports and bring gold medal for my country in the Paris Olympics.”

The Chief Minister gave away the appointment letter and said: “From the backwaters of Assam to Olympic glory, journey of Smt. @LovlinaBorgohai is inspiring. I'm elated to give her the appointment letter for the post of DySP.

“I congratulate her and hope that she will inspire the youth with her achievements in sports and official work.”

Assam Police added: “Welcome Aboard! Heartiest Congratulations to @LovlinaBorgohai on being appointed as a Dy.SP in Assam Police. Your presence will surely help us in our mission towards friendly policing in the State.”
