Hangzhou, China, January 11, 2022: Asian Games fans will be able to “Enter the Dragon” at Hangzhou 2022 – the newly renovated Yellow Dragon Sports Center football stadium.
The official Facebook page of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV and Tourism - @Hangzhou.China – reports that the upgraded “New Yellow Dragon” is ready to join the Asian Games sports fest this September.
“Teamwork makes the dream work — the Hangzhou Asian Games is getting ready to race out of the blocks!” said the post.
“As a branch venue for the Asian Games, the Yellow Dragon Sports Center Stadium has recently been refurbished. The upgraded ‘New Yellow Dragon’ has finally unveiled its mysteries. Hangzhou citizens can now enjoy the exciting competitions at the convenience of their doorsteps.”
The Yellow Dragon (or Huanglong) sports complex has undergone a two-year renovation and reconstruction programme and comprises a main stadium with an athletics track around the pitch, a gymnasium and a swimming/diving centre.
The main stadium has a capacity of 52,000 and will be one of the football venues at the Asian Games. The gymnasium seats 6,000 spectators and will host the gymnastics competition, while the swimming/diving centre seats 2,000 and will host water polo.
The complex is located 18km from the Asian Games Village and was built between 1997 and 2003, with the main stadium opening in 2000.
There will be a total of 55 competition venues for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, eastern China, from September 10-25, 2022.
