Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, January 4, 2022: The President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, has called on the sports fraternity to work “hand in hand” in a busy 2022 for athletes and officials.

In his new year greeting, the OCM President said Malaysia would be competing in six multi-sport games in 2022: Beijing Winter Olympics, Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam, Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey, Hangzhou Asian Games in September and Asian Youth Games in Shantou, China in December.

“For the year 2022, let us work hand in hand to prepare our Malaysian contingent for six multi-sport games,” he said.

“The year 2021 has been, indeed, a very challenging year for everyone in the sports industry of Malaysia. The OCM coordinated the Malaysian contingent to participate in the only multi-sport games, i.e., the XXXII Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which was held from 23rd July to 8th August 2021.

“We were proud that Dato’ Mohd Azizulhasni Awang contributed a silver medal in cycling men’s keirin, while Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik contributed a bronze medal in badminton men’s doubles.

“On behalf of OCM, I would like to thank all stakeholders in sports, especially those athletes, coaches, administrators and sports leaders, for your hard work, sacrifices and contributions towards the Olympic Movement in 2021.”
