Olympic champs Djuraev, Jalolov win top honours at Uzbekistan Sports Awards 2021

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, January 3, 2022: Tokyo Olympic Games gold medallists Akbar Djuraev and Bakhodir Jalolov were named the Best Athletes of 2021 at the Uzbekistan Sports Awards at the Hilton Hotel in Tashkent.

Weightlifter Djuraev, who won a gold medal in the men’s 109kg class at Tokyo 2020, was awarded Best Athlete of the Year, while boxer Jalolov, gold medallist in the men’s super-heavyweight category, won the fans vote for Best Athlete of the Year.

The Uzbekistan Sports Awards 2021 was organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. It was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Minister of Tourism and Sports, Aziz Abdukhakimov, NOC President Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov and Olympic Council of Asia Vice President Otabek Umarov, among other dignitaries.

Among the other winners on the night was Tokyo Olympics gold medallist in taekwondo, Ulugbek Rashitov, who won the Discovery of the Year Award, and Best Young Athletes Nigina Uktamova (girls) and Kamronbek Kadamov (boys).

The Uzbekistan Archery Federation was named Best Sports Federation and the Uzbekistan national weightlifting team won Team of the Year.

OCA Vice President Otabek Umarov was honoured for his contribution to strengthening international cooperation in the field of sports.
