Palestine NOC promotes women in sport through university workshop

Jerusalem, Palestine, January 2, 2022: The Palestine Olympic Committee held a workshop on Olympic Values and Women in Sport at Al-Ummah University College on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.

The workshop was entitled “Social Development Through Olympism – Promoting Gender Equity and Women Empowerment and Involvement” and the participants came from universities, government departments, the Palestine Olympic Committee and from sports organisations and institutions.

It also served as an introduction to a course on women’s participation in sport held in collaboration with the Olympic Council of Asia’s Olympic Solidarity Continental Programme and the Palestine Olympic Academy.

The workshop covered a variety of topics related to the participation of women in sport, from administration to sports leadership positions to technical matters. 

It emphasized the importance of building working relationships and communication between cultures as well as working hard and striving for excellence through the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

The workshop lecturer was Dr. Fatin Al-Berghouthi, who said women in sport needed to show great determination and courage to keep moving forward in order to achieve equality in the sports field.

The workshop also heard that the President of the Palestine Olympic Committee, Maj. Gen. Jibril Rajoub, is keen to promote women's empowerment and increase the opportunities for women to advance in the sports field.
