Asian karate president meets top Uzbekistan sports officials to discuss development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, December 26, 2021: The President of the Asian Karate Federation, Major General Nasser Al Razooqi,  met with Uzbekistan's sports leaders and pledged to help foster the further development of the sport in the Central Asian Republic.

Major General Al Razooqi, who is also President of the United Arab Emirates Karate Federation, visited the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in Tashkent on Friday, December 24.

He was welcomed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and Tourism and Sports Minister, Aziz Abdukhakimov, and the President of the National Olympic Committee, Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov.

During the meeting, Sports Minister Abdukhakimov spoke about the attention and care being given to popularise karate in the country and noted that Uzbekistan athletes were making a name for themselves in the international arena. He pointed to Doston Otabolaev, who won a gold medal at the Karate World Championships in Dubai last month, as an example.

In turn Major General Al Razooqi expressed satisfaction with the efforts made by the Uzbekistan Government and the country’s karate federation in promoting the sport across Uzbekistan.

Also taking part in the bilateral talks was NOC Secretary General Oybek Kasimov, who is also the Vice President of the Asian Karate Federation, and the President of the Karate Federation of Uzbekistan, Alamjon Mullayev.

Later in the day, the visiting AKF President visited the Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports and witnessed a tripartite memorandum being signed between the University and the Karate Federations of the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan to further the development of the sport.

The Asian Karate Federation pledged to provide tatami mats and other sports equipment to the karate department at the University.
