Baghdad, Iraq, December 20, 2021: The National Olympic Committees of Iran and Iraq have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation on the sports field between the two countries.
The President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Reza Salehi Amiri, travelled to Baghdad and met his Iraqi counterpart, Raad Hammoudi, with both signing the MOU on sports cooperation on Sunday, December 19.
Prior to the visit, both presidents had held initial talks on the provisions and clauses of the MOU on the sidelines of the Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly in Dubai, earlier in December.
At the Baghdad meeting, Iran’s NOC president said: “This cooperation has a prominent effect on exchanging coaches and holding joint training camps.”
Dr. Salehi Amiri pointed out that the Iran NOC was ready to host Iraqi sports officials including heads of the NOC and various sports federations, to exchange technical information in different fields.
He also highlighted the fact that the mutual hijab culture of the two countries provided conditions for holding joint training camps for female athletes.
Iraq NOC President Raad Hammoudi said: “We hope by signing this MOU it will strengthen cooperation that has brought us together on many occasions across various aspects of developments, and we hope to continue working together over the coming years to achieve successes that are beneficial to both sides.”
Both Presidents exchanged souvenirs at the end of the meeting. After the signing ceremony had concluded, Hammoudi accompanied Dr. Salehi Amiri and the visiting delegation to visit the holy shrines of Najaf and Karbala.
