Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, December 17, 2021: The Mongolian National Olympic Committee organised the Burte Chono 2021 Sports Gala in association with Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB) on December 13.
The Athlete of the Year was presented to Munkhbat Urantsetseg, bronze medallist in judo (women’s -48kg) at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and also at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
She gained 142 points in the sports media vote among 28 candidates, ahead of Tokyo 2020 wrestling bronze medallist Bat Ochir Bolortyua (women’s freestyle 53kg) in second place and weightlifter M. Ankhtsetseg in third place.
Also, judoka Tsend-Ochir Tsogtbaatar (men -73kg) was named best male athlete of Mongolia for his Olympic Games bronze medal at Tokyo and three titles at IJF Grand Slams, while another judoka, Saeid Mollaei, an Iranian national and Mongolian citizen, was runner-up for his silver medal in the men’s -81kg at Tokyo 2020.
Sports media named M. Lkhagvagerel in third place, appreciating his first ever world bronze medal in freestyle wrestling super heavyweight at Oslo 2021.
The women’s 3x3 basketball team, which qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time in Mongolian sports history, was awarded the Burte Chono Trophy along with:
