India set new medals record at South Asian Games

Kathmandu, Nepal, December 10, 2019: India concluded the 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu and Pokhara with their highest medal tally in the history of the regional showpiece winning 312 medals including 174 golds, 93 silver and 45 bronze. India had claimed 309 medals in the 2016 edition of the South Asian Games but went further this time in Nepal. In second place in the medal standings were host nation Nepal who finished with a record 51 golds. The last gold medal was probably the sweetest as the Nepal men’s football team defended their gold medal title with a 2-1 victory over Bhutan. Nepal finished with 206 medals, including 60 silver and 95 bronze. Sri Lanka finished third in the standings winning 40 golds, 83 silver and 128 bronze to tally 251 medals. Pakistan came fourth with 31 golds, 41 silver and 59 bronze to aggregate 131 medals while Bangladesh ended fifth with 19 golds, 32 silver and 87 bronze. Maldives won one gold, in the men’s 100 metres, the country’s first gold medal at the South Asian Games, and also four bronze medals, while Bhutan went without a gold but won seven silvers and 13 bronze.
