Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad re-elected QOC President

Doha, Qatar, December 12, 2021: H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani was unanimously re-elected President of the Qatar Olympic Committee for a new Olympic term 2021- 2024 and H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain was elected Secretary General.

The elections took place in the General Assembly held on Sunday, December 12 under the leadership of H.E. Sheikh Joaan.

H.E. Mohamed Yousef Al Mana was elected First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari Second Vice President, H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain Secretary General and Mr. Nasser bin Saleh Al Attiyah as Chair of QOC Athletes Commission. 

In attendance also were presidents of sports federations and committees.

During the meeting, H.E. Sheikh Joaan thanked the sports federations, praising the achievements made by Team Qatar athletes this year where they won two gold medals and one bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and a bronze medal in the Paralympic Games.  

H.E. Sheikh Joaan also urged the federations to make more efforts in preparation for the upcoming competitions of the Qatari teams.

The meeting began with approving the minutes of the previous General Assembly held in February 2020 and discussed the QOC strategy to prepare national teams for the 2030 Asian Games in Doha.

The meeting also discussed the QOC budget for the GCC Games in Kuwait, the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September 2022 and a number of topics tabled on the agenda.

At the end of the meeting, H.E. Sheikh Joaan honored sports personalities from various organisations and associations who contributed to the development of the Olympic movement in the state of Qatar.
