Sana’a, Yemen, December 13, 2021: The Yemen Athletes Committee, in cooperation with the National Anti-Doping Committee and under the auspices of the Yemen Olympic Committee, held their second anti-doping and fair play seminar at the Olymp Asia Hall on Sunday, December 12.
A total of 44 athletes and coaches from various national teams attended the seminar and learned about the updated WADA list of banned substances, the biological passport, the procedures for blood and urine samples and the sanctions for positive cases.
The Secretary General of Yemen NOC, Mohamed Abdullah Al-Ahjri, underlined the keen interest of the Olympic Committee to promote education and awareness of anti-doping issues through seminars and workshops. It was vital to protect the reputation of the athlete, the sport and the country on the world stage, he added.
Other topics to aid the preparation and performance of the national team athletes are nutrition and the prevention and treatment of injuries, the Secretary General said, and promised to give full support to the activities of the Athletes Committee.
The seminar was also attended by representatives of the government’s sports ministry as well as from the National Anti-Doping Committee. The participants came from several sports including wrestling, tennis, swimming, judo, karate, gymnastics, wushu and taekwondo.
The first seminar took place on November 20-21 and was conducted under the Olympic Solidarity arm of the IOC.
