Nepal alpine skier Saphal Ram Shrestha leaves for Italy in Beijing build-up

Kathmandu, Nepal, December 13, 2021: The National Olympic Committee of Nepal bade farewell to alpine skier Saphal Ram Shrestha who has left for Italy where he will train and take part in competitions in preparation for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The President of Nepal NOC, Hon. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, gave his best wishes to Saphal, who is also his son, and urged that he work hard and make Nepal proud at the Winter Olympic Games. The Nepal NOC chief is also President of the Nepal Ski Association.

Saphal Shrestha, 22, took up alpine skiing in 2010 on the advice of his father. His goal is to become the first medallist from Nepal at a Winter Olympic Games.

Saphal Shrestha will train at the Paganella Ski Resort in Trento, Italy and will also compete in a number of FIS Championship events in the run-up to the Beijing Winter Olympics which starts on February 4.

Also present at the farewell ceremony were Nepal NOC Secretary General Nilendra Raj Shrestha, NOC Vice President and Executive Director Chaturananda Rajvaidya and the Secretary General of Nepal Ski Association, Bijaya Shrestha.

Saphal Shrestha was also presented with sports kit by Kumaru Trading Director Pradeep Neupane, who, together with the President of the Nepal Olympians Association, Deepak Bista, gave their best wishes to the athlete.
