Dates confirmed for 31st SEA Games in Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam, December 9, 2021: The South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) held its Council meeting on Tuesday, December 7 via online platform. 

The SEAGF Council heard updates from the hosts of the following SEA Games:

*31st SEA Games in Vietnam: the dates of the Games are confirmed as May 12-23, 2022. There will be 40 sports and 526 events.

*32nd SEA Games in Cambodia: the dates of the Games are confirmed as May 5-17, 2023. The Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) proposed 42 sports for the consideration of the SEAGF Council. It will be the first time for Cambodia to host the 11-nation SEA Games in a history going back to 1959.

*33rd SEA Games in Thailand: the Games will be held in Bangkok in 2025. The dates, sports and events of the Games will be confirmed later.

The next SEAGF Council meeting to discuss the organisation of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia will be held in February 2022, while the next SEAGF Council meeting to discuss the organisation of the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam will be held on May 11, 2022 – the day before the opening ceremony in Hanoi.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia was represented at the December 7 meeting by three delegates: Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin and Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar. Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi was also present at the meeting in his capacity as Honorary Member of the SEAGF.

The 30th SEA Games were held in the Philippines in 2019. The 31st SEA Games were due to be held in Hanoi and neighbouring cities and provinces in November 2021 but were postponed to spring 2022.
