Hong Kong, China, December 6, 2021: A delegation of Chinese Olympians from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games visited Hong Kong from December 3-5.
On the last day of their visit, the delegation attended a farewell luncheon hosted by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China at the Kowloon Shangri-La.
The delegation comprised 29 athletes and three coaches from 12 sports, including sprinter Su Bingtian and table tennis gold medallist Ma Long.
They had visited the Hong Kong Sports Institute to exchange experiences with Hong Kong athletes; participated in exchange and sharing sessions with Hong Kong tertiary, secondary and primary students; staged sports demonstrations, as well as the Mainland Olympians Variety Show during their stay, and attended the lunch reception before leaving Hong Kong.
The distinguished guests included the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, Carrie Lam; Lu Xinning, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; SF&OC President Timothy Fok; Yang Ning, Under Secretary of the General Administration of Sport of China and Chef de Mission of the delegation; Liu Guangyuan, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR; Caspar Tsui Ying-wai, Secretary for Home Affairs; and Vincent Liu Ming-kwong, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services.
President Timothy Fok congratulated the mainland athletes on their admirable performances in winning 88 medals, including 38 gold medals, at Tokyo 2020. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the delegation's three-day visit to Hong Kong, allowing the Hong Kong citizens to have a chance to watch the delegation in action at the same time sharing their joy and pride.
Although the Hong Kong citizens were not able to have close contact with the delegation due to COVID-19 restrictions, he believed that the delegation could feel the enthusiasm and support from the society. He also hoped that Hong Kong would continue to maintain a close relationship with the mainland to facilitate the development of elite sports to enable our athletes to strive for excellence in the international arena.
