Hong Kong, China, December 2, 2021: A 29-strong delegation of Tokyo Olympic medallists and other elite athletes from the Chinese mainland will visit Hong Kong from December 3-5.

It is expected that the visit of the mainland athletes, together with the success of their own Olympians at Tokyo 2020, will further fuel the excitement and passion for the Olympic Games in Hong Kong – especially with the Beijing Winter Olympics set to take place from February 4-20, 2022.

Hong Kong won one gold medal (in fencing), two silver (swimming) and three bronze medals (table tennis, cycling and karate) at Tokyo 2020 – their record medal haul since they began competing at the Olympics at Helsinki in 1952.

China has sent a delegation of Olympic medalists to Hong Kong for sport and people-to-people exchanges after each of the Summer Olympics since the return of the special administrative region to the mainland in 1997. The first visit followed the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Following the Olympic triumph in Tokyo, the State Council announced on August 26 that Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macau would co-host the 2025 National Games.
