Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 21, 2021: The “Kingdom of Wonder” will join the Olympic Council of Asia’s long list of proud hosting cities in 2029 when Cambodia stages the 5th Asian Youth Games.
Cambodia NOC and the OCA signed a host city contract for the 2029 AYG at the 40th OCA General Assembly in Dubai on Sunday morning.
The President of Cambodia NOC, Dr Thong Khon, thanked the OCA for this “marvellous opportunity” and said it would further develop sport and sports infrastructure in the capital Phnom Penh and throughout the country.
Cambodia is now busy organising the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be held in Phnom Penh in May 2023. It will be the first time for Cambodia to host the 11-nation regional sports extravaganza since it was first held in 1959. They will also host the 12th ASEAN Para Games after the SEA Games.
The 5th Asian Youth Games in 2029 – following Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2025 – will build on this legacy, in particular the new Morodok Techo national stadium and sports complex on the outskirts of the capital funded by China.
The complex includes a 60,000-seat main stadium, an aquatics centre, gymnasium, indoor training hall and athletes’ village.
