Muscat, Oman, November 17, 2021: The Oman Olympic Committee held its Olympic Day 2021 celebrations in Musandam, the country’s mountainous northernmost Governorate, last week.
Over 350 residents and citizens participated in the event organised by the OOC’s Oman Sports Committee and the Active Society in Musandam, and held in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.
The activities, which included walking, swimming, weightlifting, tug-o-war, beach soccer, volleyball and many other games and competitions for children, were held under the patronage of HE Sayyid Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Musandam.
OOC Secretary General Taha Sulaiman Al-Kishry, who attended the celebrations, said: “We are pleased to organise the Olympic Day in Musandam Governorate after postponing this event for two consecutive years due to COVID-19.
“This is an important event of the International Olympic Committee and Oman has sought to implement it annually because of its great importance in embodying the concept of Olympism, promoting Olympic values and conveying an awareness and cultural message to the community about the many benefits of practising sports.”
Al-Kishry added: “Musandam was chosen due to its attractive natural elements and due to the Oman Olympic Committee’s goal of trying to involve all citizens and residents of the Sultanate in Olympic Day activities. Previously, Olympic Day activities were organised by the Governorates of Muscat, Dhofar, Al Dhahirah, North Al Batinah and Al Dakhiliyah.”
