New Nepal Sports Minister urges associations to start preparing for Hangzhou 2022

Kathmandu, Nepal, November 14, 2021: The Nepal Olympic Committee formally welcomed Youth and Sports Minister Hon. Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj at a special function organised at the Satdobato NOC headquarters.

At the function, plans for Nepal’s participation at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in 2022 was also discussed with a focus on winning medals. The Sports Minister directed all sports federations to start preparations and revealed that financial assistance would be given by the government.

The President of the Nepal Olympic Committee, Hon. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, said that sports in Nepal had opened a fresh chapter after the new Sports Act.

“The Asian Games requires solid preparation for medals. This is not enough with a day’s preparations. We have to start preparing now for a good performance,” President Shrestha said.

Nepal NOC Secretary General Nilendra Raj Shrestha welcomed the newly appointed Sports Minister and expressed confidence that Nepali sports would thrive under his leadership.

Officials from a number of sports were also present at the function and took the opportunity to tell the Minister the challenges they faced.

Secretary General Shrestha, who is also President of Nepal Triathlon Association, said that the promised prize money for medal-winning associations and federations at the 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 2019 had still not been received.
