Lahore, Pakistan, November 11, 2021: Member countries of the South Asian Olympic Committee (SAOC) have requested the Pakistan National Olympic Committee to organise a site visit to inspect preparations of competition and training venues for the 14th South Asian Games in 2023.

The heads of the South Asian NOCs who attended the ANOC General Assembly in Crete, Greece last month – Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan - met on the sidelines and top of the agenda was the South Asian Games.

The SAOC members were briefed on the progress so far by Pakistan Olympic Association President Lt. Gen (retd.) Syed Arif Hasan. The members then requested the Pakistan NOC, as per the constitution of SAOC, that an Executive Board meeting of SAOC be scheduled in Pakistan before the end of this year.

A request was also made to finalise the number of sports and disciplines at the South Asian Games, as well as to have a physical inspection of competition and training venues in the proposed cities that will host the Games.

Lahore, the capital of Punjab Province, will primarily be the main venue with sports also pencilled in to be held in the cities of Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Islamabad and Sialkot.

This will be the first time that the South Asian Games will be held in Pakistan since 2004 when it was held in Islamabad.
