Uzbekistan NOC President discusses Paris 2024 plans with rowing/canoe, wrestling federations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, November 10, 2021: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov, met with officials of the Rowing and Canoe Federation of Uzbekistan and the Wrestling Association of Uzbekistan on Tuesday, November 9 to discuss preparations for Paris 2024.

These two sports were the latest in a series of meetings the Uzbekistan NOC chief has held in recent days with sports federations to assess the progress of training plans on the road to Paris.

The Rowing and Canoe Federation has targeted 11 tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics and also said they would cooperate closely with France and other countries in a bid to qualify for the Games.

A training strategy was discussed in detail and it was noted that more work needed to be done on the coaching aspect for the athletes.

Later in the afternoon, President Shaabdurakhmonov met with officials of the Wrestling Association and the coaching staff of the national team.

It was announced that wrestling in Uzbekistan was aiming to qualify a female athlete for the Olympics for the first time. A proposal to hold an international competition in Tashkent in 2022 was also put forward with the aim of promoting the sport among the youth of the country.

The meetings were also attended by the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports, Avaz Karimov, and Uzbekistan NOC Vice President Sherzod Tashmatov.
