Phnom Penh, Cambodia, November 5, 2021: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia has announced that the 26th Angkor Wat International Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, December 19, will be restricted to 2,500 runners.

The decision follows close cooperation with the ministry of health and other relevant departments of the government and also involves a reduction in social activities and other events that usually accompany the marathon hosting celebrations.

The field will be comprised of Cambodians and foreign nationals who already live in Cambodia, and all runners must provide proof of vaccination. They will also have to undergo a test before the race, keep 1.5 metres apart from other runners and comply with other health protocols.

The 21km half-marathon is regarded as a major tourism event to promote the historic Angkor Wat temple complex and Siem Reap Province in north-west Cambodia and the NOC has asked the local citizens and athletes to continue to support the event.

It will also provide publicity for the 32nd South East Asian Games which Cambodia will host in Phnom Penh for the first time in May 2023.
