Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 28, 2021: The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan has laid out a blueprint for the 2024 Paris Olympics with special focus on team sports qualifying for the showpiece.

The President of Uzbekistan NOC, Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov, chaired a meeting at the NOC headquarters on Wednesday, October 27, and attended by government officials including the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, where plans were drawn up to prepare the country’s athletes for the 2024 Paris Games.

Top on the agenda was identifying athletes early and getting them the best possible coaching so that they could be highly competitive at the world’s biggest sporting event in three years.

Also discussed was the setting up of local and international training camps and arranging competition against top quality international opposition in the run-up to the Paris Olympics.

The participation of Uzbekistan in team events was also high on the cards, with all parties deciding that national teams across all team sports should be strengthened so that they could qualify for the Olympic Games.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Uzbekistan won a total of five medals – three gold medals and two bronze – to be ranked 32nd overall. The three gold medals were in boxing, taekwondo and weightlifting, while the bronze medals came in judo and wrestling.

Uzbekistan fielded a squad of 67 athletes in 15 sports at the Tokyo Games – 37 men and 30 women – but didn’t participate in any team sports.
