Colombo, Sri Lanka, October 27, 2021: The social media platforms of the National Olympic Committees of India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Japan, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan and the Philippines were the most active during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, according to a survey carried out by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).

The study was revealed during the 25th ANOC General Assembly in Crete, Greece and showed that Asian NOCs registered some of the highest growth rates across all platforms of social media during the Tokyo Games.

At the General Assembly, ANOC honoured the National Olympic Committees whose social media – Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter – growth rates were higher during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In its latest edition, Sri Lanka NOC’s e-newsletter GoodSport carried the results of the ANOC survey, showing the highest growth rate amongst Asian NOCs who consistently topped all four social media platforms.

On Instagram: (1) India, (2) Malaysia, (3) Philippines, (4) Chinese Taipei, (5) Sri Lanka.

On Facebook: (1), Malaysia, (7) Pakistan, (10) Sri Lanka.

On YouTube: (2) Japan, (3) Sri Lanka.

On Twitter: (1) Kazakhstan, (2) Philippines, (5) India, (7) Malaysia, (8) Pakistan.

The study was presented by Andres Santi, ANOC event manager, on day two of the General Assembly in Crete on Monday, October 25.

Among the resolutions passed at the meeting was to acknowledge the initiative to help NOCs to improve social media activities through special seminars and exchange of knowledge and experience.

An ANOC survey carried out earlier in the year showed that there were four million social media users across 44 Asian NOCs surveyed, with 74 per cent on Facebook.
