Phnom Penh, Cambodia, October 27, 2021: The organising committee of the 32nd South East Asian (SEA) Games Cambodia 2023 (CAMSOC) marked a special milestone on Wednesday – the 555-day countdown.

“On October 27, 2021 Cambodia has only 555 days left on the road to hosting the 32nd SEA Games and the opening ceremony on May 5, 2023,” CAMSOC said.

Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of NOC Cambodia and CAMSOC, said the 555-day countdown was an appropriate time for everyone concerned with the SEA Games to focus on the tasks ahead.

“We know that it is time to get ready,” he said. “There is only a short time left to host this historic event and we must join together to achieve our goal in 2023.”

The NOCC President and Minister of Tourism, Dr. Thong Khon, said all the relevant government ministries were united in their endeavours to host a successful SEA Games from May 5-16, 2023 – the first time in Cambodia’s history to organise the 11-nation regional sports fest since it began in 1959.

He said that it was important to have daily communication with all the departments of the organising committee as well as the national sports federations to coordinate the preparations and to build a community spirit and national pride.

The 31st SEA Games in Vietnam have been postponed from November 2021 to May 2022 and Cambodia plans to send athletes to compete in 32 of the 40 sports on the programme in Hanoi and neighboring cities and provinces.

CAMSOC will mark the 500-day countdown to the 32nd SEA Games on December 20, 2021.
