Doha, Qatar, October 24, 2021: Japanese all-rounder Daiya Seto won four gold medals at the FINA Swimming World Cup Doha 2021 which ended on Saturday, October 23.
The 27-year-old Olympian took his career medal haul in FINA competitions and Olympic Games events to 116, comprised of 58 gold, 30 silver and 28 bronze.
Seto won all four of Japan’s gold medals over the three days of the short-course meet in a 25m pool at the Hamad Aquatic Centre in Aspire Zone.
His four gold medals came in the 400m individual medley, 100m individual medley, 200m butterfly and 200m breaststroke.
Japan (4-0-0) finished the third leg of the World Cup series with a haul of four gold medals to finish fifth in the overall medal standings behind the Netherlands (7-1-1), Australia (5-6-5), South Africa (5-4-0) and Russian Federation (4-1-2)
The other standout Asian country was Korea who claimed a total of 14 medals – two gold, three silver and nine bronze medals – to finish seventh overall.
Korea’s two gold medals came from Hwang Sun Woo, 18, in the men’s 200m freestyle and from Kim Woo Min, 20, in the men’s 1,500m free.
The Doha meet marked the 10th year for the Qatari capital to host a World Cup leg, and followed the Berlin and Budapest legs earlier this month. Kazan, Russia will host the fourth and final leg next week.
The FINA Swimming World Championships in short-course will be in Abu Dhabi, UAE from December 16-21, 2021.
