Malaysia NOC issues statement on SEA Games Vietnam 2021

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, October 22, 2021: The Olympic Council of Malaysia has issued a statement on the current situation of the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam.

The next SEA Games were due to be held in Hanoi and neighbouring cities and provinces from November 21 to December 2, 2021, but have been postponed to May 2022.

“The OCM President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Norza Zakaria, its Secretary General, Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin, and the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the 31st SEA Games 2021 today attended the meeting of the SEA Games Federation Office,” the OCM statement, dated October 18, said.

“At the meeting, it was confirmed that the 31st SEA Games 2021 will be held in the middle of May 2022. The exact dates will be confirmed by the end of October 2021 as the Organising Committee is awaiting final confirmation from their government.”

The statement added that the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, as host of the 32nd SEA Games in Phnom Penh from May 5-16, 2023, will become co-President of the South East Asian Games Federation from December 2, 2021, along with Vietnam NOC.

“This will ensure smooth preparations for the 32nd SEA Games 2023,” the statement concluded.

The SEA Games began in 1959 and is held every two years. The 30th edition was in the Philippines in 2019. The event is contested by 11 National Olympic Committees of the SEA region.
