Iraq NOC set to sign sports cooperation agreement with Turkish counterparts

Baghdad, Iraq, October 15, 2021: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq is set to sign a sports cooperation agreement with the Turkish Olympic Committee.

The decision to sign such an agreement for the mutual benefit of both organisations was made during a meeting between the President of Iraq NOC, Mr Raad Hammoodi, and his Turkish counterpart, Prof. Ugur Erdener.

The discussions explored the best ways the NOCs of Iraq and Turkey can benefit from the agreement and also looked at the details of such an arrangement.

The Secretary General of Iraq NOC, Mr Haitham Abdulhameed, explained that the agreement would include training and management sessions between the two parties in certain areas of expertise.

The agreement also guarantees the establishment of training camps for various sports between the respective national federations in the two countries, with coordination between the Iraqi and Turkish Olympic Committees.

Prof. Erdener, who is also President of World Archery and an IOC member, said he was delighted to meet with the Iraq NOC President and said he looked forward to Olympic cooperation between the two sides in the near future. Mr. Hammoodi congratulated Prof. Erdener on the development of the sports movement in Turkey over the past two decades in terms of infrastructure and high-level performance.

Prof. Erdener was accompanied by the Secretary General of Turkey NOC, Ms Nese Gundogan.
