IOC counts down to Olympic flame-lighting ceremony for Beijing 2022

Athens, Greece, October 15, 2021: The International Olympic Committee Executive Board will meet on Saturday, October 16 in Athens, Greece with the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics a major talking point.

The EB is scheduled to receive updates on the activities of the Olympic Movement and the IOC administration, plus reports from the organising committees for future Olympic Games.

The agenda will begin with the report of the IOC President, Thomas Bach, and continue with reports from the International Olympic Summer Sports Federations, the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations, the National Olympic Committees, the Athletes and the XXIV Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.

Other major items on the two-hour, 30-minute agenda are the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 strategic roadmap and the report of the IOC Administration.

On Sunday, October 17, the IOC Executive Board will gather at the Pierre de Coubertin monument in Ancient Olympia, where his heart is buried, to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the creation of the EB.

This will be followed by a ceremony to mark the inauguration of the renovated International Olympic Academy premises, also in Ancient Olympia, in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

On Monday, October 18, at 10.30 a.m. CEST, the Olympic flame for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 will be lit at Ancient Olympia.

The Olympic flame will be carried by a few torchbearers in Ancient Olympia and then travel to Athens.

On the following day, Tuesday, October 19, the flame will be delivered to the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee delegation at a Handover Ceremony at the Panathenaic Stadium starting at 11 a.m. CEST.
