Doha, Qatar, October 5, 2021: The Qatar Olympic Committee has congratulated Sheikha Hanoof bint Thani Al-Thani for her record-breaking effort at the London Marathon 2021 on Sunday, October 3.
The Qatari champion set nine national records in different categories as she completed the London Marathon in 4 hours, 23 minutes and 30 seconds. The records included 5km, 10km, 15km, half marathon, 10 miles, 30km and marathon, according to Team Qatar.
In a post on Twitter, the Qatar Olympic Committee said: “Congratulations to all of #Qatar. The Qatari champion Sheikha Hanoof bint Thani Al-Thani completed the London Marathon 2021 breaking 9 national records. Well done Hanoof…. A new achievement for Qatari women, reflecting the meanings of determination and commitment in London.”
An estimated 80,000 runners took part in the London Marathon – 40,000 in person and another 40,000 virtually via an app – as the famous race returned to the streets of London for its first full-scale staging in more than two years, following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sheikha Hanoof, who ran through the streets of London, recorded a time of 1:59:11 at the halfway stage before going on to finish in 17,780th place overall in the mass event. The senior associate at Qatar Investment Authority took part in the 18-39 years age category.
Team Qatar also congratulated Salim Al-Eidah (2:58.26), Ibrahim Al-Obaidli (3:53:07) and Ibrahim Al-Mansouri (4:54:18)
