Bangkok, Thailand, September 15, 2021: The Olympic Council of Asia and the organising committee of the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Thailand next March conducted the first Chefs de Mission meeting via video conference on Wednesday.
The Director General of the OCA, Mr Husain Al-Musallam, thanked the organising committee, the Thai National Olympic Committee, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Royal Thai Government for all their support, preparations and hard work during the past two difficult years of the pandemic.
“We have full confidence and trust that the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be one of the best games ever,” he said in his opening remarks.
The AIMAG will be held in Bangkok and Chonburi province from March 10-19, 2022, with 29 sports and two demonstration sports. There will be a total of 305 events, with 297 gold medals from the 29 official sports. Eleven venues are located in Bangkok and seven in Chonburi province.
The meeting heard presentations from various key departments such as sports entry, accreditation, transportation, protocol and accommodation as well as the plans for covid-19 countermeasures and procedures.
Mr Al-Musallam said the OCA would send a follow-up team from the Coordination Committee to Thailand in October to discuss all aspects of the games, particularly the covid-19 procedures for the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees before and during the games.
The OCA Director General thanked all the NOC delegates for attending the meeting and congratulated the organising committee for the “excellent” presentations and wished them all success.
Addressing the NOC representatives, Mr Al-Musallam added: “I would like to see you in a better situation in person, especially in Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Land of Smiles, because it is important for the Asian Olympic family to gather for an important event, which is the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, next March.”
The Vice President of the Thai National Olympic Committee and OCA, Dato’ Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, conducted the meeting from the Bangkok side and said the local organising committee was working closely with the Ministry of Health regarding the domestic vaccination programme.
He said the Royal Thai Government had set a deadline of the end of December to achieve herd immunity, with the current 600,000 vaccinations a day being stepped up to 800,000 in October.
The 29 sports, with the number of events, are: Aquatics (32) – water polo men and women, short course swimming; Basketball 3x3 (2), Badminton (5), Billiard Sports (15), Bowling (8), Cheerleading (4), Chess (6), Climbing (6), Dance Sport (14), Esports (4), Floorball (2), Futsal (2) - men and women, Indoor Athletics (27), Indoor Hockey (2), Indoor Rowing (10), Ju-jitsu (20), Karate (13), Kickboxing (7), Kurash (10), Muaythai (20), Netball (1), Pencak Silat (11), Sambo (8), Sepaktakraw (11), Shooting (5), Skate (12), Taekwondo (20), Volleyball (2) - men and women; Wrestling (18). Total: 297 events.
Demonstration sports – Airsport FVP Racing, Teqball. Total: 8 events.
The AIMAG emblem is the Garland of Unity, and the mascot is the Fighting Parrot.
