Manila, Philippines, September 14, 2021: The Philippine Olympic Committee announced that it will send 160 athletes to the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Thailand next March.

There will be 29 sports on the medal programme, plus two demonstration sports, and the Philippines will compete in 21 sports.

These include jujitsu, in which the country won both their gold medals at the 5th AIMAG in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017.

“We have put together a delegation whose members all have the potential to win medals. The objective is to ride the momentum of the Tokyo Olympics success and surpass our two gold medals won in the last AIMAG in Turkmenistan in 2017,” said POC President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

Sport in the Philippines is riding the crest of a wave at the moment following the sensational and historic first Olympic gold medal in 97 years by Hidilyn Diaz in women’s weightlifting.

They also won two silver medals and a bronze, all in boxing, for an unprecedented four-medal Olympic haul.

The OCA’s 6th AIMAG will run from March 10-19, 2022, with 11 venues in Bangkok and seven in Chonburi province.

The Philippines will take part in the following 21 sports: Basketball 3x3, Aquatics (water polo only), Billiard Sports, Bowling, Chess, Dance Sport, Esports, Indoor Athletics, Indoor Rowing, Jujitsu, Karate, Kickboxing, Kurash, Muay, Pencak Silat, Sambo, Sepak Takraw, Shooting, Skateboarding, Taekwondo and Wrestling.
