Phnom Penh, Cambodia, September 14, 2021: The build-up to the 32nd South East Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia in 2023 took another significant step forward with the handover of the new Morodok Techo National Stadium on the outskirts of Phnom Penh.
The handover ceremony was attended by Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and by China’s State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi and took place on Sunday, September 12 under the slogan “Grant Aid from the People’s Republic of China”.
The new national stadium will be the main sports hub of the 32nd SEA Games in May 2023 – the first time for Cambodia to host the 11-nation regional sports festival since it started in 1959.
Wang Yi visited Cambodia from September 12-13 and the Chinese funding for the Morodok Techo National Stadium is part of the joint cooperation between the two countries that covers a wide range of fields including sports development.
The handover ceremony was also attended by sports dignitaries led by the President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Dr Thong Khon, who is Cambodia's Minister of Tourism, and NOC Secretary General Vath Chamroeun.
