Hangzhou 2022 thanks OCA for guidance at CDM Seminar

Hangzhou, China, September 9, 2021: The Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Mr Husain Al-Musallam, declared the two-day online Chefs de Mission Seminar for the 19th Asian Games closed on Thursday afternoon Hangzhou time.

Mr Al-Musallam thanked the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) for oganising a “wonderful” seminar which covered 15 major topics over two, three-hour sessions and provided a platform for all participants to view in detail the preparations.

He described it as an “important” milestone on the road to the 19th Asian Games, which will run from September 10-25, 2022 in Hangzhou – capital city of Zhejiang province in eastern China.

“I would like to say that the Olympic Council of Asia have full confidence in the city, the Hangzhou organising committee and the citizens of Hangzhou to conduct and stage one of the best Asian Games ever in history,” said the OCA Director General.

“I look forward to meeting you all in exactly one year’s time to celebrate the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. Thank you for your support for the Asian Games.”

The Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC and Vice Mayor of Hangzhou, Mr Chen Weiqiang, thanked the OCA for their guidance during the seminar and the NOCs for their proposals and comments.

“This has provided guidelines which we can follow as we continue our preparations for the 19th Asian Games with one year to go to the opening ceremony,” he said.

The Vice Mayor added that HAGOC would make “firm and coordinated” efforts to speed up preparations and continue to work hard to overcome the risks and challenges posed by the covid-19 pandemic in order to make the event a “complete success”.

“I am confident that Hangzhou will be able to stage a spectacular Asian Games of Chinese style, Zhejiang glamour and Hangzhou flavour for the whole world to see and enjoy,” he said.

The eight topics on Thursday covered the Athletes’ Village and five sub-villages, ceremonies, media, ticketing, technology, finance/rate card, medical and security.

There will be 5 million tickets available for the 600 sports sessions in 40 sports, 61 disciplines and 482 events in 55 competition venues, with NOCs being offered tickets from February to May followed by a general sale from June.

The main Athletes’ Village in Hangzhou city will comprise 37 residential buildings ranging from 10 to 42 floors and with a capacity of 11,000 athletes and team officials. The dining hall will be open from September 3-28 and can accommodate 4,200 people at one sitting. 

The AGV will include the Technical Officials Village and Media Village. It will pre-open on August 27, open officially on September 3 and close on September 28. There will be free wi-fi, a TV and washing machine in each room.

Team welcome ceremonies will be held in Flag Plaza of the International Zone of the AGV from September 3-9.

The five sub-villages are located at: Tonglu (equestrian), Chun'an (triathlon, cycling, marathon swimming), Ningbo (sailing, beach volleyball), Jinhua (football, sepaktakraw) and Wenzhou (football, dragon boat).

The Main Media Centre (MMC), consisting of the Main Press Centre (MPC) and the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), is located in the Exhibition Hall on the first floor of Hangzhou International Expo Centre, adjacent to the Stadium, Gymnasium, Aquatic Sports Arena and Tennis Centre of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre.

The MPC is in Exhibition Hall 1C and the IBC in Exhibition Hall 1D. The MPC will be put into trial operation from August 30 to September 3, 2022. It will operate 24 hours a day from September 4 until the end of the Games.
