Beijing, China, September 1, 2021: Chinese volleyball legend Lang Ping said on Wednesday that she had resigned as head coach of China's national women's volleyball team, CGTN reports.
Lang confirmed last year that she would retire as head coach following the Tokyo Olympics.
"Whether it is perfect or not, I will hand over the team and bid farewell," Lang said. "Looking back on my volleyball career, I feel satisfied and happy.
"I will visit Suzhou to sweep the tomb for my mother," she added.
A month ago, Lang said she would take the blame after the defending champions from Rio 2016 crashed out in the group stage at the Tokyo Olympics – China’s worst performance in nearly 40 years.
Lang led China to victory in three major tournaments - the FIVB World Cup in 2015 and 2019 and the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
