Bhutan NOC announces first franchise cricketer

Thimphu, Bhutan, September 1, 2021: The Bhutan Olympic Committee is celebrating the first cricketer from Bhutan to become a franchise player.

Ranjung Mikyo Dorji will be the first Bhutanese to play franchise cricket after being signed up by the Lalitpur Patriots for the upcoming EPL - Everest Premier League - in Kathmandu, Nepal starting September 25. 

The 22-year-old batsman was signed up as the second foreign player for the defending champions. Mikyo Dorji has been part of the Bhutan national team for the past three years and is known as a hard-hitting batsman. 

The Everest Premier League is a franchise Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by EPL Pvt. Ltd., a private group in Nepal run by founder and CEO Aamir Akhtar. The fourth season (EPL4) will run from September 25 to October 9.

“It is the biggest cricket tournament in the country, played during the northern winter calendar. Congratulations,” the BOC said.
