Iraq NOC President coordinates build-up to Hangzhou 2022, Paris 2024

Baghdad, Iraq, August 26, 2021: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Iraq, Raad Hammoudi, believes a successful Asian Games in 2022 could lead to an Olympic medal at Paris 2024.

Iraq NOC continued their planning and preparations for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China next year by meeting representatives of several national sport federations on Wednesday, August 25. These included handball, cycling, chess, sailing, aquatics and table tennis.

The Iraq NOC President listened to the plans and requirements of the federations regarding the number of athletes they hoped to send to Hangzhou 2022. Hammoudi stressed that Iraq would not send athletes as a token gesture; he expected them to be competitive at the continental level in order to compete at Paris 2024 and stand a chance of winning a medal at the Olympic Games.

Hammoudi called on the national federations to present their technical and training plans and put forward the names of the elite athletes in order to form a strong team for the 19th Asian Games in September 2022.

The meeting was also attended by other senior NOC officials and staff.
