Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, August 20, 2021: The Asian Kickboxing Confederation conducted an intercontinental Zoom technical seminar last Sunday, August 15, with more than 150 participants, including coaches, officials and members from over 25 national federations taking part.
The annual online seminar, being held for the second time, mainly focused on the challenges presented by the pandemic and on the new international rules.
It was held under the auspices of Nasser Nassiri, President of the Asian Kickboxing Confederation.
Jeong Eun Cheon, chairman of the technical committee of the confederation and executive board member of the Asian Kickboxing Confederation, conducted the seminar.
There was a pleasant surprise with the entrance of a special guest, Thai kickboxing champion Sombat ‘Buakaw’ Banchamek.
President Nassiri said: “Buakaw joined the Asian Kickboxing Confederation during 2020 and participated in our seminar as a director of the Kickboxing Association of Thailand. We are proud to have Buakaw with us. His presence will reinforce Asian Kickboxing Confederation’s position and the status of kickboxing in Thailand, the South East Asia region and internationally.”
Sombat Banchamek, widely regarded as the best lightweight kickboxer in the world, thanked President Nassiri and the Asian Kickboxing Confederation for inviting him. “Kickboxing is a sport which is not too difficult to learn and practise, especially for Thai athletes. As a K1 fighter, I will assist in developing kickboxing in Thailand.”
Topics discussed at the seminar included the grading of belts, techniques, basic and specialised tactics and updated international rules for referees and judges with the specific aim of imparting knowledge to coaches.
Also appearing at the seminar was Roy Baker, the President of the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO), who urged participants to focus on developing the sport in their countries.
Baker congratulated President Nassiri and his management team at the Asian Kickboxing Confederation on the success of their activities and efforts to promote the sport across Asia.
