Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, August 18, 2021: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, Timur Kulibayev, has sent a congratulatory message to all Kazakhstanis for National Sports Day which is celebrated every year on the third Sunday in August which falls on August 21.
“Today, sport has become an important part of the life of every Kazakhstani. The number of people who follow a healthy lifestyle is growing, and the number of fans who support our Olympians is growing,” President Kulibayev said in a statement on the NOC website.
Kazakhstan won eight bronze medals at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympic Games – two in boxing, two in karate, two in weightlifting and one each in judo and wrestling.
The NOC President continued: “Many young people are entering the sport to take advantage of their opportunities. Not to mention the importance of sports in building strong character and endurance, in achieving goals.
“The National Olympic Committee congratulates all athletes and coaches, all employees working in the field of sports and young people who have just started their careers in sports, and wished for new records and victories,” Kulibayev concluded.
Meanwhile boxers Kamshybek Kunkabayev and Saken Bibossinov, and wrestler Nurislam Sanayev, who all won bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympics, have donated their cash awards given by the state to charity. All bronze medal winners received US$75,000 each.
