Phnom Penh, Cambodia, August 19, 2021: The organising committee for the 32nd South East Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia in 2023 (CAMSOC) has announced that construction of the main stadium is complete.
CAMSOC said the new Morodok Techo National Stadium on the outskirts of Phnom Penh has passed all inspection formalities.
The stadium can seat 60,000 spectators and is part of a new complex that also includes an aquatics centre, indoor gymnasium and training hall. It will be the sports hub of the SEA Games, which Cambodia will host for the first time in history from May 5-17, 2023.
It has been built by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd and is a venture which solidifies the friendship between the two countries as part of China’s Belt and Road initiative, according to the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia.
The Chinese Embassy reports that the main stadium can host major international sports events, international football matches and national events.
